| Kiruna, in very northern Sweden comes out to celebrate the snow and winter in a Snow Festival which takes place during the last weekend of January. It's about 140km inside the Arctic Circle, this is the land of reindeer and the northern lights. The main event is the ice sculpting competition as ice artists fashion magical creations from 3 x 3 meter blocks of compressed snow that gradually take shape during the festival. There's plenty of music and vodka, reindeer sled races and snowmobile displays. But while you're up here, make your way to the ice hotel which is built near here every Autumn. The design changes every year depending on the creator.. terribly cool. |
