| Often referred to as ?the three most beautiful days? (die drey scheenschte Dääg), Basler Fasnacht is Switzerland?s biggest carnival. It takes over the town of Basel for 72 hours in February or March each year, kicking off in complete darkness at 4am with a lantern parade. The 18,000 participants (Fasnächtler) hide their identities for the duration of the festival with elaborate costumes, and take part in a series of parades and concerts. Visitors are advised not to attempt to participate, but do have a drink and enjoy yourself while taking in the spectacle. |
